The story shifts focus to a new protagonist, Sergeant James Heller, a soldier whose family perished in the Blacklight outbreak, set in the virus-ravaged world of New York Zero. Heller vows revenge against Alex Mercer, the first game’s lead, whom he blames for the city’s downfall, consumed by grief and anger.
Heller’s unique shape-shifting abilities which enables him consume and morph into other characters for disguise as well as unleash bio-organic weapons like claws, tendrils and blade arms for brutal combat are the key features. Improved mobility enables players to scale skyscrapers, leap across vast distances and explore the sprawling districts of New York Zero. A mutation system was also introduced by the game that offers upgrades and customization options that tailor Heller’s power to various playstyles.
