Mortal Kombat 3 was developed by NetherRealm Studios and released in 1995. It is the third installment in the legendary Mortal Kombat fighting game franchise. Focusing on Earthrealm’s battle against the invading forces of Outworld dominated by the wicked ruler Shao Kahn, Mortal Kombat 3 continued the storyline from the previous games. It is well-known for its stylized violence, brutal combat and dark aesthetic. While keeping its competitive gameplay intact, the game was developed to evolve the series both technically and narratively.
Chain combos, new Fatalities, Babalities, Friendships and the Animality finishing move were also introduced by the game. A new lineup of characters are its features such as Cyrax, Sektor, Kabal and Nightwolf . Though some well-known characters such as Scorpion were initially absent. The “Kombat Kode” was another unique addition that enables players to input codes before matches to enable different effects or hidden features. It made the visuals lifelike for the time and used digitized actors and more detailed sprites than its predecessors.
