It is a landmark Japanese role-playing game (JRPG). Players were introduced to the industrial dystopian world of Gaia, as the seventh main entry in the final fantasy series. To oppose the corrupt megacorporation Shinra and eventually confront the enigmatic antagonist Sephiroth, soldier of fortune Cloud Strife joins the eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE.
The Active Time Battle (ATB) system that blends turn-based combat with real-time decision-making. The Materia system that enables players to customize magic, summons and abilities and an expansive 3D world with pre-rendered backgrounds, world map exploration and mini-games such as Choco breeding and racing, snowboarding and submarine battles are also included in the key features. To leverage full-motion (FMV) cutscenes, the game was one of the first RPGs and revolutionize cinematic storytelling in games at the time.
